Touchscreen Art with Constance Scopelitis
These are a series of pieces I built along with artist Constance Scopelitis to transform her graphite drawings into interactive touchscreen art pieces. Her drawings are of figures draped with hand-rendered fabric. The idea in the interactive piece is that the viewer can come up to the screen, and, using touch, grab and move the fabric around to reveal various things underneath. One piece shows flowers, another has cats, and another has a flock of algorithmically controlled doves flying around the screen when the fabric is moved. The fabric movement itself is made possible by a cloth simulator that is typically used for flags, drapery, and clothing in video games.
I wrote an in depth technical article over on Curiosity Motive about the piece as well.
